Pong is one of the first video games and though it was very simple, it was very popular. Your assignment today is to create an animation of a game of pong.

Requirements:

  • Create an animation of a pong game.
  • Save it in your flash folder as pong.
  • Your stage should be 400 pixels by 300 pixels.
  • Draw in a pong screen (you don’t need the numbers).
  • It should also bounce off the bottom and off the top.
  • You will need to use 7 layers - one for the background, 2 for scores, one for each paddle, one for the ball and one for sound effects.
  • The paddles and ball need to move realistically.
  • Your animation should end with a score of 3 points, you decide the score.

Procedure:

  1. Make 7 layers
  2. Name the layers background, left paddle, right paddle, ball, right score, left score and sound.
  3. Draw your items on their layers
  4. Create motion tweens in your paddles and ball layers
  5. Move your objects to their start positions
  6. Use keyframes to animate your paddles and ball.
  7. Insert sounds when necessary
  8. Move your objects to their next position
  9. Repeat steps 4 and 8 until you are done.

Use our imagination to create an interesting movie.

Possible ideas include:

  1. Change the color of the ball or paddle when they come into contact.
  2. When the score changes have the numbers flash (using alpha).
